Encourage family members to stay active

Getting their eLearning done is important.

  • Break up their sitting or idle time with activities that keep their bodies moving — including active and creative play.

  • Lethargy is NOT our friend!

Encourage family members to get outside

Sunshine and fresh air are important! Make a commitment to spend time outside daily.

  • Play, walk the dog, jog laps around the house/yard perimeter, make obstacle courses using garage items, or enjoy quiet time while reading in a porch chair.

Encourage family members to exercise

A trainer once confronted me about the difference between activity and exercise. There IS a difference!

  • Get kids’ heart rates up: create races or obstacle courses (time and chart completion for competitive play), jump on a trampoline, ride bikes, find appropriate video or online exercise routines.

  • Planet Fitness is posting 20 minute fam-friendly workouts twice daily! No equipment required.

  • Reach out to your child’s PE teacher for cardio/conditioning suggestions.

Encourage family members to eat healthily

  • Establish consistent mealtimes.

  • Incorporate vegetables and fruit into meals and snacks.

    • Plan meals ahead of time to ensure your family is getting a variety of nutrients.

    • Pre-fill snack containers to keep in fridge with ready-for-snacking veggies.

    • If fresh not available, prepare frozen or canned (watch sodium if using canned!)

  • Curb snacking throughout the day. Establish a couple of snack times daily and make a list of acceptable snacks for kids to reference independently.

  • Drink water and avoid sugary beverages like soda, punch, and juice.

Encourage family members to maintain hygiene habits

  • It’s easy to skip showers or miss brushing teeth when you’re out of routine or not leaving the house much. Ensure all continue both as usual.

  • Get dressed in the mornings.

  • Maintain a regular sleep-wake schedule.

    • Avoid napping during the day (unless sick or young).

    • Go to bed and wake up around same time daily.

    • No need to set an alarm, but ensure everyone is keeping a consistent schedule by not staying up late or sleeping in excessively.
